I thought I would share with you this quick exercise that I sometimes use for a more centering feeling. It is also a way of opening your mind and sight to the true nature of things.
It relies heavily on the power of our abilities to pretend something. This is a skill we all had when we were young. We would pretend all types of amazing fantasy worlds with no problem. What the fuck happened as we grew up? This exercise, or way of thinking, is partly to reconnect with your imagination.
One of the most powerful weapons on the way to seeking truth and trying out new exercises or ideas in consciousness is to use my imagination. This itself is an exercise in consciousness and it can be very useful when you are trying to practice something that you may not totally believe in.
This is really quite simple. When you are browsing the web or talking with someone and a new idea for practicing spirituality or consciousness, simply pretend that it is going to be effective for you. I have heard in a couple of places that instead of “seeing is believing”, it is much more accurate to say that “believing is seeing”.
So, when you see a video or hear about a technique for meditation or expanding your own self awareness, go with it! When you dismiss one of these exercises out of hand because it doesn’t conform to your world view, then you have already failed in bettering yourself and have wasted your time learning it.
The great part about pretending is that only you know you are practicing whatever the exercise is. There is no need to feel self conscious about a new idea you are trying on for size, you are just pretending! The only way that you will know if something is worthless to you is if you try it, right?
